Terms of Use

Last updated: July 22, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the canlegalbench.com website (the “Site”), operated by CQL.ca. By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Use of the Site

You may use the Site for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:

Email notification service

The Site offers an email notification service that allows you to request to be informed when the CanLegal benchmark is publicly released. We do not guarantee that the benchmark will be released, nor do we guarantee any specific release date. Submission of your email address constitutes a request to be notified and does not create any contractual obligation beyond our good-faith effort to send you a single release notification.

Intellectual property

All content on this Site — including text, graphics, logos, and design — is the property of CQL.ca or its licensors and is protected by Canadian and international intellectual property laws. You may view and use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes. Any future public release of the CanLegal benchmark, including its datasets and scoring code, will be governed by a separate license published at that time.

No legal advice

The CanLegal benchmark measures how AI models reason about Canadian law. It is a research and evaluation tool. Nothing on this Site constitutes legal advice, and the benchmark's results should not be relied upon for any legal decision. Always consult a qualified legal professional for legal matters.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CQL.ca and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Third-party links

The Site may contain links to third-party websites (such as cql.ca). We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any third-party site. Accessing third-party links is at your own risk.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CQL.ca and its affiliates from any claim, demand, or damage — including reasonable legal fees — arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province in which CQL.ca operates. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that province, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time. The most current version will always be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
